About the Association for Universal Reiki Awakening

The Association for Universal Reiki Awakening was founded on a simple but profound truth: Reiki is not only a personal practice—it is a global force of awakening. As humanity moves through a time of rapid transformation, the need for collective healing, spiritual coherence, and compassionate action has never been greater. We exist to support this evolution by bringing practitioners together into a unified field of intention, service, and light.

We are honored members of the Reiki Healing Association, The International Reiki Organization and The Center for Reiki Research, and we commit to abiding by the highest ethical principles in practice and in teaching.

Why we exist

For many years, Reiki has been practiced quietly—one practitioner, one client, one session at a time. While this work is deeply meaningful and must continue, it often leaves practitioners feeling isolated or unsure of how their individual efforts contribute to the greater whole.

The Association for Universal Reiki Awakening was created to bridge that gap.

We believe that when Reiki practitioners gather—physically or energetically—they generate a collective biofield capable of uplifting not only individuals, but communities, ecosystems, and the consciousness of the planet itself. Our purpose is to nurture this collective field, strengthen the bonds between practitioners, and cultivate a global network of healing intention.

Our Guiding Principles

Our work is grounded in three core understandings:

  • Reiki is Universal. It transcends culture, religion, and personal identity. It is the natural expression of the life force that animates all beings.

  • Reiki is Intelligent. Practitioners do not direct or control the energy; we allow it to flow. Healing arises through presence, humility, and alignment.

  • Reiki is Collective. When we practice together, the energy amplifies. A single candle can light a room; a thousand candles can illuminate a world.

Our Lineage and Integrity

We honor the sacred lineage that has carried Usui Reiki from its origin in Japan to practitioners across the globe. Our teachings and values are rooted in the wisdom of:

  • Mikao Usui, whose enlightenment on Mount Kurama revealed a path of spiritual cultivation and compassionate service.

  • Chujiro Hayashi, who brought structure, clarity, and clinical precision to the practice.

  • Hawayo Takata, who ensured that Reiki would become a worldwide gift, accessible to all who seek healing and awakening.

This lineage is not simply historical—it is alive within every Usui Reiki practitioner who opens their heart to the flow of universal life force.

About the Founder

Daniel Payne, RMT is an Usui Reiki Master Teacher dedicated to restoring Reiki to its original depth—an embodied spiritual practice rooted in presence, ethical living, and compassionate service. Known for his clarity, historical rigor, and community‑centered approach, Daniel teaches in the lineage of Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi, and Hawayo Takata.

Based in Chicago, he leads Reiki circles, educational programs, and community healing initiatives that blend accessible metaphysics with grounded, practical instruction. His work focuses on helping practitioners cultivate hara, embody the Gokai, and experience Reiki as a lifelong path rather than a "weekend technique."

Daniel's Reiki lineage began in South Korea in 2007–2008, when he was trained and attuned by his first teacher, Lee Min‑ho. Lee had been trained and attuned by a direct student of Chujiro Hayashi, and he passed this lineage to Daniel. His focus was the inner work and spiritual discipline at the heart of Reiki practice. Years later, Daniel completed a full refresher of all three levels of Usui Reiki Ryōhō with Lisa Powers, whose lineage traces through Hawayo Takata.

The lineage Daniel carries and passes on is therefore twofold: the traditional Usui/Hayashi lineage received from his first teacher, Lee Min‑ho, who holds a profound place in his heart, and the more Western-aligned Takata lineage received through his second teacher, Lisa Powers. While his methods and teaching remain rooted in the traditional approach he learned in Korea, Daniel is deeply grateful for Lisa’s guidance and the bridge she provided to the Western Reiki community.

Daniel is a member of the Reiki Healing Association, The International Reiki Organization, and The Center for Reiki Research.

The Importance of Lineage in Usui Reiki

In Usui Reiki, lineage is the thread that connects each practitioner back to Mikao Usui, the founder of the system. It shows how the teachings were passed from teacher to student, preserving the integrity of the methods, the attunement process, and the spirit of the practice. A clear lineage isn’t about hierarchy — it’s about transparency, accountability, and honoring the tradition that allows Reiki to be shared safely and effectively. By knowing your lineage, you stand within a living stream of practice that has been carried forward with care for over a century.
